This past Labor Day Weekend, Liam gave us his first smile (not due to gas or while sleeping) and Isaac counted to 10 all on his own!

Also, Williamt time met his Grandpa for the first time and both boys met their great Uncle Ron & Aunt Barb

I can’t believe William is already one month old! It seems only yesterday I was wishing he was a bit older so he would sleep better, be a bit more predictable and be content in other places besides my arms. Now that that time has come, I want time to slow down so I can enjoy the rest of his infant stage! A few days ago, we had Liam’s infant photo shoot with our good friend and fabulous photographer Royce Adams. It was so nice to do this with a friend in a home we are all comfortable with. It was so relaxing – even with our toddler sons running around (thank you mom for coming and entertaining them!) As you can see, the photos turned out beautifully. I am so impressed with Royce’s talent. Thank you again!

August

Instead of trying to spend a lot of time (which I don’t have) putting in different posts for the past month, I decided to throw in a ton of different pics. Of course we have been busy with getting to know Liam but other than that we enjoyed an out of state visit from my brother, saw lots of friends and family we rarely see otherwise and have been getting out to enjoy the sun when we can!

To say this week has been tough is an understatement. Aside from sleep deprivation and the regular obstacles that come with caring for a newborn, we’ve had several other unexpected obstacles. The first one was the day after William was born, Isaac woke up at my parent’s house with a fever of 102, a sore throat and ended up throwing up as well. We had planned on Isaac coming home with us from the hospital but we had to postpone that in order to keep William safe from Isaac’s cold. Once we brought Isaac home, we had some family medical issues (everything is ok now) which left us with very little help that we had planned on. Sonny and I have been doing everything we can to get sleep and keep the boys happy and seperate until Isaac is no longer contagious. However, a result of the seperation is that I have spent very little time with Isaac and it’s definitely affecting him.

Last night it came to a head – Isaac had been acting out all week but he was particularly defiant last night. With the screeching, back to back timeouts and the fact that he hasn’t given Sonny or I a kiss or barely a hug since we got home was disturbing. After his final timeout, Sonny sat him down and told him how much Mommy and Daddy love him. The moment was really emotional for Sonny and I because we felt like we let Isaac down and hurt his feelings. We knew there was no way it would be the same ever again and it made me cry worse than the day I dropped him off before the induction and feared it wouldn’t be the same again. Before his bedtime we made sure to spend some family time together reading a book with William in one arm, Isaac in the other and Sonny in front of the chair – forming a perfect little circle. Before bed Isaac gave us all including William a kiss willingly!

Today was a much better day – Sonny and I made sure to switch things up with the boys and swap turns on things with Isaac. We’re done with the speration and Isaac got to spend a lot more time helping Mommy with Liam today. It was a huge weight off our shoulders to see such a great change. Though we know it will get better from here and our family will be full of love, there still is that part of us that will hold onto the special memories of the 21 months with our firstborn.

Here are some pics from today – our first brother shots!

Isaac calls himself “Ick” and recently got his own “motorcycle”! He loves it and talks about it all the time. Also, Poppy picked him up his very own helmet which he is equally in love with. At night before bed, he makes sure to say goodnight to his motocycle :)

Liam entered our world on July 31, 2009 at 4:07pm weighing 9lbs 1oz and 20 inches long! His birth was a piece of cake compared to his big brother and everyone is home doing great and adjusting to being a family of four :)

It’s amazing to think we’re having another baby by Friday!

Last week was Sonny’s birthday WEEK - we had four different celebrations which ended with a big beach BBQ this past Saturday at our local beach! It was a ton of fun and it was so awesome to see so many friends and family! Thanks to everyone for coming – it was a great opportunity to relax and enjoy the summer before our lives get really crazy with an infant!

wrapping up the party back at our house – reading with Uncle Bob. Sometimes I ask Isaac to say “Uncle Bob” because it’s just so darn cute! He also learned to say “Mitchell” which is his much older cousin that came to the party too!

Fire…Works!

This is how Isaac says “Fireworks”…with a nice long pause in between the two words. It’s really adorable and he talks about them all the time. Which is amazing to us since he only saw ONE firework on the 4th of July. We wanted him to see the whole show (Sudden Valley marina show from my parent’s deck) but he was sleeping so well and it had been a long day so we didn’t want to wake him in the end. Anyway, ever since the one he saw from our deck after we got home, he mentions them at least four times a day. Now he adds the “boom” and hand motions to accompany them. Also, if you use the word “fire” in any context it will kick off a 5 minute conversation about the fireworks and how loud they are, etc…  Hopefully we’ll get a chance to see some more “fire…works” before the summer is over and he’s a whole year older!

Somewhat related…here are some photos of the 4th in which we spent most of the day in Canada seeing family and attending a family birthday party for Isaac’s 2nd cousins who turned 1 and 3 years old! It was at a splash park and it was great to see everyone. Everytime we get up there we wish we went more often. We also stopped in to see Sonny’s dad and his gorgeous garden that he’s been working on – he has an amazing green thumb!

Thank you Betsy and the Watters family for letting us enjoy your lovely beach on Lake Whatcom. We had a great time hanging out with everyone and we love the new sand and play area for the toddlers!
